As sports medicine continues to advance, the emphasis on a multidisciplinary approach to athlete care becomes increasingly important.
Advances in imaging techniques within sports medicine have become essential for both injury management and performance optimization.
Radiological imaging serves as a cornerstone of modern sports medicine, offering a detailed, non-invasive means to visualize the structure and function of the musculoskeletal system.
Imaging in sports medicine should not be viewed in isolation but rather as part of a comprehensive assessment that includes clinical evaluation, functional testing, and patient-reported outcomes.
The future of imaging in sports medicine holds great promise, paving the way for better athlete care and performance optimization. The integration of imaging with artificial intelligence is poised to revolutionize the field, offering the potential for automated image analysis and improved diagnostics.
For this reason, I wanted to take the opportunity in the first issue of Aspetar Sports Medicine Journal in 2025 to update some of the biggest issues in imaging in sports medicine. I can't think of better sports medicine experts to tackle these challenging topics than our two Guest Editors: Dr. Bruce Foster from Canada and Dr. Marcelo Bordalo, Director of Radiology at Aspetar. They have brought together excellent experts from around the world.
In addition to these outstanding papers, I strongly recommend that our readers also read the inspiring story of the world-record holder and Olympic gold medalist Karsten Warholm, and his legendary coach.
Our Guest Editors have done an excellent job of assembling a team of authors who offer specialized insights into each of the latest topics in sports radiology. I thank them all for their valuable contributions to this excellent issue.
I hope you enjoy reading it.
